At Hemphill County Hospital District, we believe in supporting the growth and success of our team. Recently, many employees expressed a desire to learn English during their annual evaluations. A year ago, we took action, and we are thrilled to offer ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to our employees.
Lisa Cervantes, Spanish/ESL teacher at Canadian High School, in partnership with HCHD, provides weekly classes in a supportive space for HCHD employees to review materials, complete assignments, and strengthen their language skills. In addition to classroom learning, the program emphasizes practical language use by encouraging participants to practice speaking with one another and engage in language exchange. This hands-on approach has been instrumental in building confidence and fostering a collaborative spirit.
Lisa shared, “A huge shout out to the ladies who are joining me in our weekly adult ESL class. These ladies work all day, take care of their families, and still manage to come to a class to better themselves. They work so hard and are always happy and have a positive attitude. I am so proud of the progress they are making. They are truly inspiring, and I’m blessed to be around them. “
We are honored to support our employees in achieving their goals and building skills that will serve them in every aspect of their lives. And we’re very proud to shine a light on this group of employees for their hard work and determination, which is truly inspiring!
